Therapy for negative self-image and insecurity

A negative self-image and insecurity can be very persistent and hold you back in many areas of your life (private, work, hobbies, etc.) in what you really want for yourself. "I can't do anything anyway," "I've always been a loser," "I'm just ugly, that's just the way it is. Pages can be written about negative thoughts or insecurities.

You criticize yourself or tear yourself down. You compare yourself to others who are always better than you are anyway. The other person always wins over you. That's obvious! If only you weren't who you are today. These thoughts can overwhelm you, but mostly they are a familiar keynote that lays a heavy gray blanket over everything.

You are skeptical about your own skills and competencies, and you especially don't want to take new steps into the future that looks pessimistic anyway because of this. Even wanting to change this pattern is seen as an uphill battle.

Where does it come from anyway, such a negative self-image?

It can occur if, for example, you were raised very protective. Self-confidence has not been able to develop enough. It may also be that in your life, perhaps from an early age, you have been criticized a lot for your behavior or performance. Or that you have been bullied. There may have been many reasons where somewhere at the core your self-confidence has decreased or has not been able to develop enough and a negative self-image has arisen.

What can I do for you?

With a little insecurity there is no reason to see a therapist or psychologist. But if you are really so insecure or too negative about yourself that your social life or career suffers, it is advisable to seek help.

Treatment will be tailored to your needs. Together we will explore what is actually happening in your inner world. What feelings, thoughts or behaviors are getting in your way? What is meaningful to you? This will give you more insight into yourself and therefore perhaps more confidence and a more positive self-image. Endless brooding and controlling your thoughts and feelings is a futile goal. It is better to focus on what you do find important in life.

Changing a negative self-image is hard work! With psychodynamic therapy or Brainspotting, we can face it together. The most important thing in treating a negative self-image is that the form of treatment suits you. Therefore, it is nice to know that I can use a wide range of treatment forms.
